- CalciumCalcium: According to human case reports, hypocalcemia may be associated with pentamidine administration (2316230, 8801377).
- FolateFolate: According to animal study, pyrimethamine (Daraprim®) is a folate antagonist that may prevent conversion of folic acid to its active form and may reduce serum folate levels (3630970). Pentamidine is a prescription drug used to treat Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia. According to secondary sources, decreased serum folate levels and megaloblastic bone marrow changes may occur rarely with prolonged intravenous pentamidine (Pentacarinat®, Pentam 300®) therapy.
- MagnesiumMagnesium: According to human case reports, symptomatic hypomagnesemia may occur with pentamidine (NebuPent®, Pentacarinat®, Pentam 300®), particularly if given intravenously (2316230, 8801377, 1866558). This is likely due to renal tubular injury, leading to increased urinary loss of magnesium.
